ALPHA FREQUENCY #758 - RONGOĀ AND MANA ATUA: HOLISTIC HEALING

Holistic Well-Being

When we talk about healing in our modern society, we often think of it as a physical process, fixing a broken bone or curing a virus. In many Western theological traditions, the "gifts of healings" are viewed as supernatural interventions for physical ailments. While this is true, our Māori worldview offers a much broader and more integrated perspective on what it means to be well.

Health, or hauora, is a holistic state that involves the deep interrelationship of mind, body, spirit, and place. We understand that you cannot truly heal the body without also addressing the spirit and the land it belongs to. By recognising this connection, we move away from the mistake of seeing the world as separate, disconnected pieces and embrace the truth that everything is woven together.

Restoring The Vital Spark

Through our lens, healing is essentially the restoration of mauri, the vital life force that binds our physical and spiritual existence. When Wairua Tapu (the Holy Spirit) exercises the gift of healing through a believer, it is a form of rongoā, or spiritual remedy, that addresses the root cause of an ailment.

This remedy does not just mask symptoms; it seeks to restore the spiritual balance that may have been disrupted by trauma, sin, or isolation. When our mauri is restored, we move from a state where our life force is declining toward a state of being fully alive and resilient, what we call Mauri Ora. This is the supernatural work of Wairua Tapu bringing our internal "spark" back into alignment with the Source.

God's Unfiltered Power

While healing is the restoration of balance, miracles represent something even more spectacular. We reframe miracles as Mana Atua, the "unfiltered" power of God breaking into our physical world, or Te Ao Mārama. These are not "violations" of nature, but the "fulfillment" of nature through the power of the one who created it.

Mana Atua is often manifested to protect or sustain the iwi during times of great need. It is the presence of the Creator making itself known in the "world of light" to show that we are not alone. In Te Tai Tokerau, where we are choosing to build our own thriving systems, we prioritise these manifestations as signs that we are being guided by a logic and power far greater than any human system.

Healing The Nation's Spirit

We see the most vivid historical examples of this in the ministry of Tahupōtiki Wiremu Ratana. His work was defined by the gifts of healings and miracles, but he reframed them as a means of "moral reform" and unity across different tribes. He knew that physical health was only part of the story; his mission was about "curing the spirits" of a people who had been devastated by colonization.

Ratana showed us that when these spiritual gifts are exercised through a Māori worldview, they have the power to transform the social and political reality of an entire nation. Healing becomes an act of justice and restoration. As we look toward the future of the North, we continue to deploy these taonga to ensure that our people are not just physically healthy, but spiritually strong and connected to their land.

Faith That Makes Whole

Yeshua often showed that healing was deeply connected to our spiritual trust and the restoration of our place in the community. When he healed the woman who had suffered for years, he highlighted that her wholeness came from her connection to the Source.

"And He said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.'" (Mark 5:34 NKJV)

"Na ka mea ia ki a ia, E tamahine, na tou whakapono koe i ora ai; haere i runga i te rangimarie, kia ora hoki i tou mate." (Mako 5:34 )

When we exercise these gifts today, we are continuing that same work. We are speaking life into the broken places and trusting that Wairua Tapu will restore the mauri of our people. Let us prioritise this holistic healing as we build a society where every person can stand in the full light of their inherent dignity.
