THE WOVEN UNIVERSE #909 - THE COSMIC WEAVER: IHU AS THE SUSTAINER OF THE WOVEN UNIVERSE

The Weaver of Reality

In the deep teachings of the Whare Wānanga o Te Tai Tokerau, Rev. Māori Marsden spent his life exploring how our world is actually built. He didn’t see the universe as a cold, dead machine made of separate parts. Instead, he understood it as a "Woven Universe." Just like a beautiful korowai (cloak), everything is tied together. But a woven cloak requires a weaver, someone to hold the tension of the strands and make sure the pattern stays together. Marsden identified this master weaver as Ihu (Yeshua's name in the Paipera Tapu).

The Word and the Pattern

Marsden was a master of many languages, including the Greek used in the sacred texts. He saw a direct link between the Greek word "Logos" and our Māori word "Kōrero." He taught that Ihu is the primary expression of Io-matua-kore. He is the active "Word" that speaks the world into being. He takes the infinite potential of the unseen world and weaves it into the ordered laws of nature, like the trees, the stars, and the soil we walk on. He is the bridge that turns a thought into a reality.

Holding the Threads Together

In our everyday world, things tend to break down and fall into a mess. We see this in our communities when things get chaotic or when the environment is neglected. Marsden saw Ihu as the source of order. He is the one who constantly repairs the threads of our reality. He ensures that the mauri (life force) of the universe does not simply evaporate. Without Him, the weave of the universe would simply come undone, and everything would dissolve back into the dark.

Delegated Authority and Mana

Marsden was very clear that our own power to change our lives is a gift. Because Ihu is the one who holds the ultimate Mana over the entire field of reality, our ability to act as navigators in the North depends on our connection to Him. He provides the "Spiritual Software" we need to manage our marae, our businesses, and our families. When we work alongside the Cosmic Weaver, our actions move in harmony with the original design of the Creator, leading us to a state of Mauri Ora.

The Power of His Word

The Ethiopian Orthodox Bible describes this sustaining power perfectly, showing how the Weaver keeps the pattern of the universe coherent:

"Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power." Ethiopian Orthodox Bible (Hebrews 1:3)

Original Ge'ez Text:

Weaving Abundance in Taitokerau

We are not alone in our struggle to build a better society here in the North. Rev. Māori Marsden’s work reminds us that the Cosmic Weaver is already at work, holding the strands of our region together. By placing Ihu at the centre of our local councils, our iwi decisions, and our whānau lives, we are plugging into a source of energy that never runs out. We can move from the exhaustion of trying to do it all ourselves into a rhythm where abundance is the natural result of a well-maintained weave.
