THE ALPHA FREQUENCY #725 - STRIPPING THE LAYERS: IDENTIFYING THE DECEPTIONS THAT HINDER HAUORA
Identifying the Distractions
Kia ora, whānau. Today we are wrapping up our series on why the message of Ihu (Yeshua’s name in the Paipera Tapu) matters so deeply right here in Taitokerau. To do that, we need to talk straight about the big distractions that block us from reaching our true potential. Ihu was a master at cutting through the political BS and religious noise of His day. We need to use that same clear signal to strip back the heavy colonial layers that are currently hurting our Hauora, which is our holistic wellbeing.
In the North, our spiritual foundation tells us that recognising deceptions is the first step to finding freedom and fairness. These deceptions have been mixed into our daily lives through generations of colonisation, making things look confusing. Ihu taught us a beautiful truth that cuts right through this static.
The Truth Sets Free
"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32 (Ethiopian Orthodox Bible)
When Ihu spoke these words, He was not talking about a dry checklist of rules. He was talking about a deep, living freedom that restores our mind, body, and spirit altogether. To experience this, we have to call out the specific lies that try to keep us small and dependent on external systems.
The One-Size-Fits-All Lie
The first major deception we face is the lazy idea that all Māori are exactly the same. Outside power structures love to dump us into one giant box because it makes us easier for a distant bureaucracy to manage. But this completely wipes out the unique Mana and local sovereignty of our different hapū and iwi across Taitokerau.
When we strip away this layer, we remember who we really are. Real progress does not come from a centralised government department; it comes from our own whānau taking action at the grassroots level. Our diversity is not a weakness to be ironed out, it is our greatest strength.
The Expert Trap
The second big deception is the belief that only Western science and university degrees hold the answers to life's problems. For decades, we have been told that outside research is completely neutral and fair. In reality, it has often been used as a tool to control us and push our traditional Māori knowledge aside.
This narrow view tries to tell you that if an outside expert cannot measure something on a chart, it does not exist. But a decolonised view of the Gospel reminds us that truth is found on multiple levels, especially the spiritual plane. Your cultural knowledge and spiritual insights are fully valid.
Restoring Our Source
Ihu warned His friends to watch out for hollow systems that look incredibly grand on the outside but are totally empty on the inside. In our communities, this means we must stop relying on Western-only mental health systems that treat our emotional distress like a mechanical breakdown. Instead, we must return to our own traditional frameworks that look at the whole person.
We also need to stop treating our beautiful waterways and land as items to be bought, sold, or polluted for corporate profit. Caring for our environment is a sacred duty given to us by God. By organising our own local care, we step away from being passive subjects and start realising our true destiny as people of a thriving land.
Steps For Today
Living out this freedom requires practical choices in our daily lives. When an external system tells you there is only one standard way to fix a problem, stop and ask if that way actually honours your whakapapa and the God-given dignity inside you. Trust your intuition and the wisdom passed down by your elders.
Speak your truth clearly using Te Reo Māori and your local stories to describe your challenges. Never let an outside group simplify your identity. As we allow Wairua Tapu to clear away the static, we will see Taitokerau rise up, transforming into a shining light of peace and holistic health for the entire world.
