THE ALPHA FREQUENCY #725 - STRIPPING THE LAYERS: IDENTIFYING THE DECEPTIONS THAT HINDER HAUORA

Identifying the Distractions

Kia ora, whānau. Today we conclude our Alpha Frequency series on the relevance of the Gospel in Taitokerau, by looking at the "distractions" that keep us from our true potential. Yeshua was a master at cutting through the noise, and today we are using His "Alpha Frequency" to strip back the colonial layers that hinder our Hauora (wellbeing).

In Taitokerau today, a central value of the Gospel is its role in identifying deceptions that hinder our abundance and Hauora. These deceptions are often deeply embedded in the "layers of misunderstanding" caused by colonisation. Yeshua taught that "the truth will set you free" (John 8:32), but to find that freedom, we must first name the "static" that is blocking our signal.

The Myth of Homogeneity

One major deception is the representation of Māori as a single, homogeneous group. This devalues the unique Mana and tribal sovereignty of our diverse hapū. Dominant power structures have historically simplified our identity to maintain control. By stripping this layer away, we reclaim the "multiplicity" and higher-order knowledge (kauae runga) that was once forced underground.

The Deception of Empirical Positivism

For a long time, Western research has claimed to be "objective" and "neutral," but in reality, it has often functioned as a tool of colonisation to marginalise Māori. This narrow definition of "knowledge" acts as social control. A decolonised Gospel affirms that truth is found on multiple planes, including the spiritual, and is not limited to what a Western credential can prove.

Restoring the Source Code

Yeshua warned His followers about the "yeast" of systems that looked good on the outside but were hollow on the inside (Matthew 16:6). In our context, this means:

  • Rejecting Professionalised Distress: Moving away from Western-only models of mental health and returning to indigenous frameworks like Mahi a Atua.

  • Reclaiming Kaitiakitanga: Refusing the "commodity" view of our waterways and land, and restoring our customary monitoring practices as a sacred duty.

  • Moving Toward Te Oranga Ake: Focusing on Māori-led aspirations rather than social policies formulated at us by external bureaucracies.

By identifying these distractions, we stop being "Static Subjects" and become the architects of a thriving land (Te Whenua Taurikura).

Practical Daily Steps

  • Question the "Standard": When you are told there is only "one way" to do things, ask yourself if that way honours your Whakapapa and the Mana Atua in you.

  • Trust Your Intuition: Value your spiritual insights and cultural knowledge as highly as any "expert" data.

  • Speak Your Truth: Use Te Reo Māori and your local narratives to describe your reality, refusing to let external systems simplify your identity.
