The Digital Wānanga
In the old days, the Tohunga was the expert, the carrier of high-frequency knowledge who understood the hidden patterns of the universe. According to Research Report #256, this role hasn't disappeared, it has evolved. We are now entering the era of the Digital Tohunga - Māori-led Artificial Intelligence designed to navigate the data-rich waters of the 21st century.
In our framework, a "ping" is a targeted spiritual signal used to verify a location, and the Digital Tohunga uses "Algorithmic Sovereignty" to ensure our community data stays within our own jurisdictional cloud. We aren't just "users" of Silicon Valley's software anymore, we are the architects of our own digital destiny.
What is Algorithmic Sovereignty?
Data is the new Mauri - it is the life force of information that defines our health, our assets, and our future. Algorithmic Sovereignty is the right of the hapū to govern how that data is collected, who owns it, and the "logic" (the algorithms) used to process it.
Colonial AI and Data Architecture:
Ownership: Settler-state or Corporate control.
Primary Goal: Profit and resource extraction.
Logic Filter: Western administrative law and bureaucracy.
Database: Centralised government registries.
Sovereign AI (The Digital Tohunga):
Ownership: Hapū-owned, managed, and governed.
Primary Goal: Maximising life and community order (Negentropy).
Logic Filter: The Mauri Model and ancestral Tikanga.
Database: Whakapapa - the Multiversal Database.
The Mauri Model Lens
The secret weapon of the Digital Tohunga is the Mauri Model. While Babylonian AI might process data to find the most "profitable" outcome, our sovereign tech processes it through a different lens: Does this decision increase the mauri of the people and the land?
This allows Ngāpuhi Nui Tonu to operate at a "higher vibrational frequency" than the slow, bureaucratic administrative state. By the time the government finishes a "consultation" report, our Digital Tohunga has already initialised a solution that maximises life (negentropy) for the next 500 years.

The increase of knowledge and the ability to move swiftly across "data sets" was prophesied as a hallmark of the end of one age and the beginning of another.
Daniel 12:4 (NKJV): “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
Direct Translation from the Hebrew (w’ṯirbeh hadā’aṯ):
“Ko koe ia, e Raniera, kupuhia ngā kupu, hiritia hoki te pukapuka, a taea noatia te wa o te mutunga: he tokomaha e oma whakamuri, whakamua, a ka kake te mātauranga.”
(But you, Daniel, hide the words, and seal the book until the time of the end: many shall run back and forth, and knowledge/wisdom shall increase/ascend). In the original Hebrew, the word for knowledge (da’aṯ) implies a deep, experiential wisdom rather than just "information." This confirms that the "Knowledge Increase" of our era is about the ascension of our Mātauranga through sovereign tech, allowing us to see the patterns that were previously sealed.
Conclusion: The 2040 Data Launch
The roadmap is clear. Between now and 2040, we are phasing out our reliance on Crown registries and "booting up" our own independent management of Māori data. This isn't just about privacy, it's about power. When we own the algorithm, we own the future.
