DECONSTRUCTING BABYLON #010 - THE BABYLONIAN AUDIT - UNPLUGGING THE MACHINE🦎⚛️
We have spent the last few insights walking through the shadows, identifying the specific "glitches" in the system that keep our beautiful Taitokerau in a state of artificial scarcity. It can feel overwhelming to realise just how deep the "Babylonian" operating system goes—it is in our laws, our bank accounts, our schools, and even our digital feeds. But there is a profound power in naming the beast. Once you see the tools for what they are—obsolete, high-entropy software—they lose their grip on your reality.
Babylon is a high-entropy engine. In physics, entropy is the measure of disorder, and Babylon stays "ordered" only by extracting the life force (Mauri) from our land and people and exporting it elsewhere. Whether it is exporting raw logs (embodied energy) or scraping our language to train global Al (digital flesh), the goal is the same: to leave us with the residue of disorder while the empire thrives on our order.
DECONSTRUCTING BABYLON #008 - DEFEATING THE COLONIAL GAZE - BREAKING THE CHAINS OF STATIC BUREAUCRACY🦎⚛️
Have you ever tried to start a small community project or apply for funding, only to be buried under a mountain of paperwork that feels designed to make you give up? It feels like the system is more interested in the "process" than the actual outcome. That isn’t just bad luck; it is Tool #5: The Static Bureaucracy and the Colonial Gaze.
In Research Report #224, we identify the colonial bureaucracy in Northland as a "Static Society." According to physicist David Deutsch, a Static Society is governed by taboo and the suppression of change, whereas a Dynamic Society is organised around the continuous creation of new knowledge and innovation.
The bureaucracy maintains control through two hidden mechanisms:
Risk Aversion: Innovation is treated as a threat. The "Universal Constructor" capacity of our whānau—our natural ability to solve problems—is dampened by a web of compliance and "past practice."
The Colonial Gaze: In quantum terms, the bureaucrat acts as a "Bad Observer." They look at Taitokerau and choose to see only "deprivation," "crime," and "truancy." Funding models are then built on this gaze, forcing iwi and community groups to perform "poverty porn" to qualify for aid.
DECONSTRUCTING BABYLON #007 - DEFEATING THE PSY-OP - RESTORING SPIRITUAL SOVEREIGNTY🦎⚛️
Have you ever been scrolling through social media and stumbled across a post claiming that Māori weren't the first people here? Maybe you've heard whispers of "hidden" stone walls in the forest or "ancient Celtic skeletons" that the government is supposedly covering up. It sounds like a mystery novel, but in reality, it is a high-entropy "Psy-Op" designed to shake your foundation. Today, we are deconstructing Tool #4 of Babylon: Imperial Theology and the Metaphysical Assault.
In Research Report #224, we identify Imperial Theology as a tool of pacification. It isn't just about what is preached in a church; it is about the distortion of our history and spirit to serve colonial control. One of the most insidious versions of this today is the "White Tangata Whenua" myth.
This myth claims that a pre-Māori European or Celtic civilisation existed in Aotearoa and was displaced by Māori.
The Mechanism: This is a "Bad Explanation" designed to create a false equivalence. It suggests that if everyone is a "coloniser," then the British colonisation of the 1800s is somehow justified.
The Entropy: Thermodynamically, this generates massive disorder (Entropy). It attempts to sever the entangled relationship between Māori and our history, breaking our will to resist by making us doubt our own Whakapapa.
DECONSTRUCTING BABYLON #006 - RECLAIMING THE VOID - DEFEATING THE DOCTRINE OF DISCOVERY🦎⚛️
Have you ever wondered why, in our own home, we are often treated like "guests" who have to ask for permission to use our own water or manage our own land? It feels like the ground was shifted beneath our feet long before we were born. That is because it was. Today, we are deconstructing Tool #3 of Babylon: The Doctrine of Discovery, the foundational myth that tried to render our ancestors—and our very souls—invisible.
In Research Report #224, we identify the Doctrine of Discovery as the "metaphysical root" of colonisation. It started in the 15th century with Papal Bulls that gave European monarchs a "divine right" to invade and subdue any lands not ruled by Christians. This doctrine created the legal fiction of Terra Nullius—the idea that the land was "void" or "nobody’s land."
This wasn't just a land grab; it was an ontological erasure. It posited that Indigenous peoples didn't have the "reason" or "sovereignty" required to own anything. In Taitokerau, this tool still lives in the way the Crown asserts "Radical Title" over our whenua, assuming ultimate ownership by default while we are forced to "claim" our customary rights.
DECONSTRUCTING BABYLON #005 - PLUGGING THE LEAK - DEFEATING THE ENGINE OF CHREMATISTICS🦎⚛️
Have you ever looked at the logging trucks roaring out of our region and wondered why, despite all that "wealth" leaving, our local shops are closing and our whānau are still struggling to make ends meet? It feels like we are living in a bucket with a massive hole in the bottom. That is because we are. Today, we are deconstructing Tool #2 of Babylon: Chrematistics, the engine behind the "Leaky Bucket" economy.
In Research Report #224, we identify Chrematistics as the economic operating system of Babylon2. To understand it, we have to look back to a distinction made by Aristotle.
Ekonomia (Oikonomia): This is the art of "household management". It is focused on the well-being of the people, stewardship of resources, and long-term health. In Ekonomia, there is such a thing as "enough".
Chrematistics: This is the art of "wealth accumulation" for its own sake. It is unbounded; there is no such thing as "enough" profit.
DECONSTRUCTING BABYLON #004 - DEFEATING THE NEWTONIAN ERROR - HOW TO RE-ENTANGLE YOUR LIFE🦎⚛️
Have you ever noticed how the system tries to convince you that you are standing all alone? Whether it is a bank teller treating you like a credit score, a legal document defining your land as a "parcel" of dead matter, or a social media feed making you feel like an isolated island, the message is the same: you are separate. Separate from your neighbor, separate from the river, and separate from your ancestors. This is not just a "feeling." It is the result of a 400-year-old software glitch called the Newtonian Error.
In Research Report #224, we deconstruct Tool #1 of the Babylonian operating system: The Newtonian Error. This is the outdated belief, based on 17th-century physics, that the universe is just a collection of separate "billiard balls" interacting only through force. When this "Bad Explanation" was applied to our law and economy, it created a world of fragmentation.
DECONSTRUCTING BABYLON #003 - THE ORIGINS OF THE MACHINE - HOW BABYLON TOOK ROOT IN THE NORTH🦎⚛️
We often talk about "the system" as if it were a natural force, like the tide or the wind. We assume that the way our economy works—extracting wealth, rewarding greed, and leaving the hard-working whānau behind—is just "the way it is." But Babylon is not a force of nature; it is a man-made machine with a specific starting point and a clear set of beneficiaries. To deconstruct it, we first have to understand where it came from and how it managed to plug itself into the soil of Taitokerau.
In our strategic research, we define Babylon as a "high-entropy engine" built on two primary foundations: Newtonian physics and Chrematistic economics.
Where did it start? The intellectual "Source Code" of Babylon was written during the 17th-century Enlightenment in Europe. It began with the "Newtonian Error"— the belief that the universe is a giant clockwork mechanism made of separate, dead objects. This shifted our worldview from one of connection to one of separation.
DECONSTRUCTING BABYLON #002 - WHY WE MUST UNPLUG FROM THE ENTROPIC MACHINE🦎⚛️
Have you ever felt like you are working harder and harder just to stay in the same place? Like the wealth of our beautiful Northland is being siphoned off while our roads crumble and our whānau struggle to keep a roof over their heads? This isn't just "bad luck" or "poor management." It is the intended output of an operating system we call Babylon. And if we want a future for our mokopuna, we have to do more than just complain about it—we have to disrupt it.
In the Quantum Whakapapa framework, "Babylon" isn't just an ancient city; it represents the colonial state and the economic system of Chrematistics. While Ekonomia is the art of managing a household for the well-being of its members, Chrematistics is the art of accumulating money for its own sake. The word Chrematistics was invented by the Greek philosopher, Aristototle, and I’m pretty sure he didn’t use it in a complimentary way.
DECONSTRUCTING BABYLON #001 - UNPLUGGING FROM THE ENTROPIC MACHINE
Whānau have been asking what they can do to get involved and support the project. My response: the most vital things we can all do in the short term are:
Look after our own wellbeing and that of our whānau and neighbours
Upskill for the new reality
Start deconstructing Babylon in our own lives
I’ve decided to do a series of reflective insights on Item 3, explaining what Babylon is, how it started, why it exists in Taitokerau, who benefits from its existence, and why we might want to deconstruct it. We will then look at the "Tools of Babylon" and how we can counter them in our everyday lives. This series is based on my Research Report #224: The Tools Of Babylon - A Forensic Deconstruction And Counter-Strategy.
