ALPHA FREQUENCY #751 - MAURI AND HAU: THE ANIMATING BREATH

The Vital Spark

While mana provides the authority to act, it is mauri that provides the animation. In our worldview, mauri is the life force or vital spark that binds the physical and spiritual realms together. It is not just something we talk about in a religious sense, every person, every place, and even every object possesses mauri. When Wairua Tapu (the Holy Spirit) imparts a spiritual gift to a believer, we can understand this as the enlivening of that person's mauri to perform a task that far exceeds their natural human capacity.

This means a spiritual gift is not a dead tool, it is a living part of who we are. It is the "spark" of the Creator igniting our own life force to serve our whānau and our land. When we operate in our gifts, we are not just doing a job, we are manifesting a vibrant, living energy that brings health and vitality to everyone around us.

The Breath In The Gift

The concept of hau, which refers to the breath or vital essence, adds a deeper layer to how we understand these enablements. In traditional Māori thought, a gift is never just a neutral object, it carries the hau, or the spirit, of the giver. This creates what we call a "spirit of the gift" that necessitates reciprocity. The gift creates a connection between the one who gives and the one who receives.

When Wairua Tapu (the Holy Spirit) imparts a gift to us, we become carriers of the divine hau. We are literally carrying the "breath" of God within us. Because this breath is a gift, we are under a spiritual obligation to pass that life along to our community. We cannot hold onto it for ourselves, because to stop the flow is to stifle the breath itself.

A Circle Of Reciprocity

When a believer shares their gift, the community receives more than just a service, they enter into a reciprocal relationship with the Spirit. This is how we build a truly healthy society here in the North. We move away from the idea of "charity" where one person is high and the other is low, and we move toward a circle of life where everyone is breathing together.

In this circle, the "wealth" of the community is measured by how freely the mauri and hau are flowing between us. If one member is in lack, the circle is broken. But when we release the taonga we carry, we ensure that the life force of the whole group is maintained and strengthened. We are stewards of a divine rhythm, keeping the breath of life moving through every whānau.

The Living Breath

Yeshua showed us that the transmission of spiritual power is as intimate and vital as breathing. After his resurrection, he met with his followers and shared this divine essence with them directly, showing that they were to be carriers of his own life force.

"And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'" (John 20:22 NKJV)

"A, ka puaki tenei kupu ana, ka pupuhi ia ki a ratou, ka mea ki a ratou, Kia riro i a koutou te Wairua Tapu." (Ioane 20:22)

When we receive our enablements, we are receiving that same breath. It is the animating force that transforms us from being people just trying to get by into "universal constructors" who can shape a better reality. We are breathing in his grace so that we can breathe out his love into every corner of Taitokerau.
