More Than Just Closing Your Eyes

Many of us live life feeling like a "leaky bucket," we work hard all day but always feel drained and empty. We often treat sleep as a boring "dead spot" in our schedule, just a way to recharge our physical batteries. But when we look deeper, we see that sleep is actually a sacred journey. While your body stays still, your spirit (wairua) awakens to connect with the Creator and find the guidance you need for your life.

Getting the Help You Need

I believe that during sleep, your spirit isn’t just "off," it is accessing a deeper level of reality to bring back wisdom for your whānau and your future. You are meant to wake up with more than just physical energy. You should wake up with the specific ideas and peace needed to handle a world that often feels heavy and disconnected.

The Real Rest Ihu Promised

To understand this, we can look at the famous invitation from Ihu (Yeshua's name in the Paipera Tapu): "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). When we look at the meaning behind this promise, we see a massive shift in energy:

  • Weary: This refers to people working to the point of total exhaustion because they are stuck in a system that just takes from them.

  • Burdened: This describes being loaded down like a pack animal with the weights and stresses of the world.

  • Rest: This doesn't just mean "stopping." It means to be totally refreshed and to have your life force (mauri) restored from a state of being "empty" to a state of "thriving."

Checking Your Energy

To measure how well we are resting, we can use the Mauri Model developed by Dr. Kepa Morgan. This helps us see if our habits are leading to decay (-2) or helping us flourish (+2). The main things that block this deep, sacred rest are "noise" and stress. When we bring phone screens or high-stress thoughts into our bedrooms, we create mental clutter. We stay stuck in "survival mode," which stops us from receiving the abundance we are meant to have.

Creating Your Safe Space

To fix your rest, you must create a "sanctuary," a place where you feel safe in your mind, body, and spirit. You can do this by turning your room into a space that protects your energy rather than letting it leak away.

Stop the leaks by:

  • Putting away screens at least an hour before bed.

  • Practising a sense of quiet reverence that prepares your heart to receive gifts from the Spirit while you sleep.

Waking Up to Abundance

When you prioritise this kind of rest, you will notice a real change in your life. You move from feeling "stuck" to a state of flow and life. You will find that you have better intuition and a deeper sense of peace. This is how we stop being weighed down by the past and start becoming the builders of a bright, hopeful future.
