TĀIKI E! #103 - THE SPEECH OF CREATION: UNDERSTANDING THE HEART OF KARAKIA

More Than Just Poetry

In our previous discussion, we talked about intent as the ultimate fuel for Te Ara Wairua, the Spirit Path. But how do we actually launch that fuel into the world around us? We do it through the profound power of human speech. In our traditional Whare Wānanga training, Karakia was never looked at as just a collection of nice words, emotional poetry, or rigid religious formulas. It was understood as a precise, practical tool designed to use sound and vibration to interact directly with the very fabric of our reality.

When we speak, we are not just making empty noise or filling the air with breath. We are releasing real energy that carries specific information right into the unseen realm. Here in Taitokerau, we are learning to value this grassroots agency, understanding that our voices have the power to reshape our environment and fix the soil of our communities from the ground up.

Physics of the Voice

Sound is a real physical force. It ripples through the physical air, but it also creates waves across the entire spirit world. Think of the Spirit Path as a vast, quiet ocean stretching out before us. When you perform Karakia, your voice acts like a stone dropped into that calm water, creating ripples and vibrations that carry your inner intent outward into the universe.

This is why the true heart of Karakia is so essential. If our words say one thing, but our hearts are vibrating with fear, hidden anger, or the political BS of the day, we end up sending a completely noisy and distorted signal. To be effective, our voice and our heart must be perfectly in tune. When they align, our speech becomes an active organiser, turning messy spiritual possibilities into the solid, life-giving reality we want to see.

The Original Master Frequency

To make our Karakia as powerful and protective as possible, we must learn to tune our voice to the absolute right frequency. Ihu  Read about Tareha, the bold Ngāti RēhiaA chief who defended Māori authority at Waitangi in 1840. This post explores his powerful speech on the strength of the marae and local agency, showing how his words and the teachings of Ihu inspire us to fix our own soil in Taitokerau today. is described across ancient scriptures as the Word. In the physics of the Spirit Path, this means He is the original, perfect vibration that spoke everything into existence in the first place, the master frequency of creation itself.

When we align our speech with Ihu, we are not just reciting a dry religious checklist. We are tuning our personal radio station directly to His divine frequency. Because He is the source of all life and order, aligning with Him ensures our words build up our whānau rather than tearing them down, acting as a shining light to the rest of the world.

"But He answered and said, 'It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."'" - Matthew 4:4 (Ethiopian Orthodox Bible)

Ge'ez text: እርሱም መልሶ፦ ሰው ከእግዚአብሔር አፍ በሚወጣ ቃል ሁሉ እንጂ በእንጀራ ብቻ አይኖርም ተብሎ ተጽፎአል አለው።

Te Reo Maori, Paipera Tapu, 1868 translation: Na ka whakahoki a Ihu, ka mea, Kua oti te tuhituhi, E kore te tangata e ora i te taro kau, engari i nga kupu katoa e puta mai ana i te mangai o te Atua.

Speaking Life Daily

We have all been given a massive collective responsibility, the authority to speak either life or death into our surrounding environment. Through the practice of Karakia, we can actively speak peace into a storm, health into a suffering body, or hope into a struggling community. We are not passive observers, we are active participants in the ongoing Speech of Creation.

By keeping our words clear and simple, our hearts focused, and our frequency tuned to Ihu, we become genuine weavers of a better world. True progress will never be driven by top-down economic models focused on endless growth, it happens when local whānau use their voices to prioritise equity, love, and goodwill to Mankind. Let us stand together and speak life into our land.
