THE PURE SOURCE #145 - WAIRUA TAPU AND THE GLOBAL ECOLOGY OF SPIRIT: RECLAIMING THE BREATH OF LIFE
A central pillar of faith
This research report is a piece of work I hold very close to my heart. It represents a major step in my own faith and is a foundational part of the Quantum Whakapapa project. For a long time, I have felt a calling to show the link between how we understand Wairua Tapu here in Aotearoa and how that same divine breath has been felt by others, such as the ancient traditions in Ethiopia or the Hebrew understanding of the Ruach.
The scope of the report
In this report, we look into the "Two Waters" (literal translation of “wai-rua”), the two streams of the physical and spiritual that make up our world. We explore the parallels between the "infilling" of the Holy Spirit and the "awakening" of the quiet spiritual energy within us. The scope is wide, covering the way divine wisdom has been silenced, the impact of colonial greed on our spiritual well-being, and how a restored spiritual focus is the only way to build a future where our communities can truly thrive.
The Breath of Divine Wisdom
In the ancient books of the Ethiopian Orthodox tradition, we find Wisdom described as a feminine presence, a breath that comes directly from the mouth of the Most High. This is the "nurturing mother" aspect of the spirit that was so often pushed aside by colonial thinking.
"I came out of the mouth of the most High, and covered the earth as a mist." - Sirach 24:3 (Ethiopian Orthodox Bible)

“I puta mai ahau i te māngai o te Runga Rawa, ā, ka kapi i ahau te whenua anō he kohu.” - (Translated directly from Ge’ez).
A teaching from Ihu
The promised breath of life, known to us as the Wairua Tapu, is the teacher that brings all things back to our memory, ensuring we never forget our true origin.
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, the Spirit will teach you all things and remind you of all that I have said to you." - John 14:26 (Ethiopian Orthodox Bible)
“Ko te Kaiāwhina ia, ko te Wairua Tapu, e tonoa mai e te Matua i runga i tōku ingoa, mā taua Wairua koutou e whakaako ki ngā mea katoa, māna hoki e whakamahara ki a koutou i ngā mea katoa i kōrero ai ahau ki a koutou.” - A teaching from Ihu (Yeshua's name in the Paipera Tapu), translated directly from the Ge’ez Manfas Qeddus.
Restoring the feminine spirit
We also take a direct look at the one-sided, aggressive way of thinking that came with colonialism. This mindset treated the land as something to be owned and used up, rather than a living relative to be cared for. The report argues that reclaiming the nurturing, wise side of the Divine is essential for our survival. It is about moving away from a system that drains our life force and moving back to the "Economic Pā", where our wealth and spirit are kept safe and grown within our own whānau.
The Pure Influence of the Spirit
To understand the balance we need, we must recognise the spirit as a pure influence that flows through everything, as described in the Wisdom of Solomon.
"For she is the breath of the power of God, and a pure influence flowing from the glory of the Almighty." - Wisdom of Solomon 7:25 (Ethiopian Orthodox Bible)
እስመ፡ መንፈሰ፡ ኃይለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ይእቲ፡ ወጥቃዌ፡ ንጹሕ፡ እምክብረ፡ ኩሉ፡ ዘይእቲ።
“Ko ia hoki te manawa o te kaha o te Atua, he rerenga mīharo hoki e puta mai ana i te korōria o te Runga Rawa.” - (Translated directly from Ge’ez).
Taking the time to get it right
Because this report is so important to our mission, it is going to take me a bit of time to pull all the information together for you. I want to make sure the message is easy to understand and that the weight of this research is felt. We are talking about the "sneeze of life" (Tihei Mauri Ora!), the moment we move from feeling powerless back into our divine strength.
