THE PURE SOURCE #152 - TIHEI MAURI ORA: WALKING IN SACRED AUTHORITY TOGETHER
A collective awakening
We have reached the final step of our journey through Research Report #270. This concluding piece is a joyful, practical call to action for our communities. For too long, our whānau have been carrying the crushing weight of systemic pressure, leaving many people to feel completely powerless against the decisions made by distant authorities. But as tangata whenua born, raised, and living in Taitokerau, I see a completely different story unfolding across our hills and valleys. We are not a defeated people, we are an awakening people, ready to step back into our sacred collective authority.
The sneeze of life
When we say "Tihei Mauri Ora!", we are not just uttering a polite cultural greeting. We are speaking a profound truth about the exact moment humanity receives the divine breath and steps out of stillness into living movement. It is about the complete restoration of our ancestral wisdom, grounded directly in the heart of the universe. This spiritual grounding, guided by our faith and the gentle warmth of Wairua Tapu, demands a total commitment to peace, love, and genuine goodwill to all mankind.
A law of love
To understand how we walk in this sacred authority together, we must look to the foundational teachings of Ihu (Yeshua), who showed us that real authority is never found in dominant control, but in deep, unconditional care for one another.
"This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." - John 15:12 (Ethiopian Orthodox Bible)
Ge’ez text: ዛቲ፡ ይእቲ፡ ትእዛዝየ፡ ከመ፡ ታፍቅሩ፡ በበይናትክሙ፡ በከመ፡ አነ፡ አፍቀርኩክሙ።
Te Reo Maori (Paipera Tapu, 1868 translation): Ko tāku ture tēnei, kia aroha koutou tētahi ki tētahi, me ahau hoki kua aroha nei ki a koutou.
Fixing our local soil
This law of love serves as the perfect template for how we build a better society. The modern colonial model of endless competition has brought an aggressive masculine imbalance that constantly splits our people apart. It creates a taker culture that focuses entirely on hoarding resources, completely ignoring how the pie is shared. True progress means we take up the grassroots responsibility to fix our own soil. When we treat social investment, such as providing safe housing and supporting our youth, as a long-term return for our community, we are realising the true spirit of equity.
The unified path forward
This is why we cannot afford to sit around waiting for the political system to fix itself. The responsibility rests with our whānau, hapū, marae, and our local businesses to build the Economic Pā. We must protect our collective mauri, ensuring that our hard work and regional resources stay local to benefit our own people rather than being sucked out by outside corporations. By recognising our universal humanity and seeing ourselves as equal members of one human race, we can easily overcome the social divisions that have kept us isolated for far too long.
The light of Taitokerau
I carry a firm conviction that Taitokerau will lead the transition toward a society that prioritises holistic well-being and the safety of our environment. The North is rising as a shining light to the rest of the world, proving that true peace is possible when we live together just the way we were always meant to live. It has taken time to bring all the pieces of Research Report #270 together, but the roadmap is clear. Let us move forward with confidence, breathing the breath of life together.
