The Separation of the Heavens

In the Māori account of creation, Te Ao Mārama began with a struggle for space. The primal parents, Rangi (the Sky) and Papa (the Earth), were locked in a tight embrace, keeping their children in the darkness of the "Night." It was the act of separation that allowed light to flood into the world. In the spiritual realm, this represents the transition from chaos to order.
